Add enough water to soak it for 4 hours. Strain the soaked dal after 4 hours. (Do not throw the water, use it for grinding) Now grind the dal using a mixer(small portions at a time), into a really smooth paste.(Add water, if required) Transfer the paste to a container and add some water (if required), to make it smooth. Now add 1 teaspoon salt and mix it. Cover it and let it rest for 8-10 hours. (it depends on weather, so it may take more than 10 hours) After 10 hours, check whether the batter is ready or not, there should be a foamy layer on the top and when you smell it, it smells like its fermented. Now, heat a Pan and rub some oil using a slice of onion. (High heat) Sprinkle some water on the Pan to cool it down. Now spread a scoopful of batter on the pan immediately. (and reduce the heat to medium-low) And cover it for a minute. Remove the cover and take out the dosa from sides and serve hot with Sambhar and chutney. BON APPETITE!
