Ingredients

For filling

  • 2 tsp ghee
  • 1 cup desiccated coconut
  • 1/2 cup jaggery
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 tsp cardamom powder

For modak

  • 1 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • a pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp ghee
  • 1 cup rice flour

Instructions

For filling

  • To prepare modak first we have to prepare filling and for that add ghee and desiccated coconut in a pan and roast it for 2 minutes on low heat
  • add jaggery and mix it well
  • cook well until jaggery is dissolved
  • add nutmeg powder and cardamom powder and mix it well
  • let it cool

For modak

  • now in an another pan add water, milk, salt and ghee and mix it
  • boil it
  • Reduce the heat and add rice flour and mix it well until it comes together
  • turn off the heat
  • leave it for 10 minutes
  • transfer it to a bowl and let it cool a little
  • now knead it and take a small portion and roll it to make a ball
  • coat it with rice flour
  • use your fingers to stretch it
  • add the filling, close it and seal it properly by making a drop like shape
  • make slits using butter knife on the sides, finger distance apart and press it a little to expand the slits.
  • place it in a steamer
  • cover and steam for 15 minutes on medium high heat
  • add ghee for garnishing
  • modak is ready
