Samosa is a very popular snack or appetiser prepared with maida dough and filling from potatoes, onions, meat peas or lentils. There are many shapes can be found in the preparation of samosa based on the regions and this ring samosa recipe is also one of them prepared in India. It is circular in shape and filled with potato filling and fried.

The word samosa is derived from Persian language known as sanbosag. History of samosas can also be traced back to 9th century originally. It was spread to India and Indian subcontinents by Turkic dynasties. You can refer wikipedia for more information about it. Today you can see samosa every where, it has become a very popular snack in India and also in other countries of Africa and South east Asia.

Ring samosa is a samosa shaped like a ring prepared with potato filling. It is also very easy to prepare and tastes crispy and delicious. You can also add any other filling of your choice in this recipe. To prepare this delicious crispy snack you have to just follow the simple steps which I have described in detail below with photos.

Serving-

  1. you can serve it with tomato ketchup or mint chutney.
  2. you can also serve it with tea

  2. do not fry it on high flame.

Ring samosa

Ingredients

  • 2 cups maida/flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp carom seeds
  • 4 tbsp ghee
  • water
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/2 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds crushed
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1 tsp ginger paste
  • 1/2 tsp chilli powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • 1/2 tsp dry mango powder
  • 2 large potatoes mashed
  • 1 tsp salt
  • handful coriander

Instructions

  • take bowl and add maida/flour, salt, carom seeds and ghee 
  • mix it well
  • add water and knead a little hard dough
  • cover it with wet cloth
  • leave it for 15 minutes
  • now add oil, cumin seeds, fennel seeds, crushed coriander seeds, green chillies and ginger paste.
  • fry it for a minute
  • add chilli powder, garam masala and dry mango powder
  • mix it well
  • add mashed potatoes 
  • mix it well on medium heat
  • add salt and handful of coriander 
  • mix it
  • now take prepared dough and knead a little
  • take a small portion and roll it
  • roll it thin
  • cut it in a square shape
  • add the filling
  • apply water all over the dough
  • roll it tightly up to half
  • use a knife and make cuts all over 
  • roll it and join the ends
  • use a small piece of dough and seal it
  • drop it in hot oil on low heat
  • fry it on low heat until it comes up
  • now fry it on low medium heat until it turns golden brown
  • ring samosas are ready
