What is moong dal cheela?

Moong dal cheela or moong dal chilla is one of the healthy breakfast recipe prepared with moong dal batter, It is also one of the quick breakfast recipe which can be prepared easily in 10-15 minutes if you have soaked the dal. It is also similar to any cheela recipes like atta cheela or oats cheela which looks like dosa and can be enjoyed as breakfast or even as a lunch box recipe too. Moong dal is very rich in protein, vitamins like B-6 and also in calcium and that’s why it is healthy breakfast recipe.

Variations

You may find many cheela variations, even I have also prepared many cheela recipes which you can look out. But moong dal cheela is one my favourite as it is more delicious and crispy than any other cheela recipe. you can also add mixed grated veggies to it like carrot, beetroot, onion extra, It will make much more healthier cheela, I have added rice flour in this recipe to get more crisp but you can skip that ingredient if you don’t like it. AlsoI have used yellow moong dal but you can use green moong dal as well. It can also be made with sprouted moong just like pesarattu or sprouts cheela.

How to make moong dal cheela?

Cheela recipes are usually very easy to make and this recipe is also one of the easiest cheela recipe which you can prepare in your home. For this you have to soak the moong dal for 2 hours before blending it for the batter and mix all he ingredients to prepare a batter, then spread it on hot pan and apply oil and cook until done, that’s it, you can enjoy it with mint chutney, coconut chutney o even tomato sauce. Important points

  1. Batter should not be very thick or thin. It should be of dosa batter consistency.
  2. do not cook on high heat otherwise it can get burnt.
  3. You can prepare the batter in advance and store it in refrigerator for upto 24 hours.
  4. You can reheat the prepared moong dal chilla to eat it the next day.
  5. Do not add too much rice flour otherwise it can make chilla more crispy and dry.
  6. If you find the cheela too dry add the veggies stuffing like tomatoes, onion or paneer.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup moong dal
  • 1 inch ginger
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tbsp rice flour
  • 1 tbsp gram flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp oil

For green chutney

  • coriander handful
  • mint leaves handful
  • 2 green chillies

Instructions

  • To prepare moong dal cheela. first add moong dal and water in a bowl and soak it for 2 hours
  • add it to the blender and add ginger, green chilli, water
  • blend it smooth and add it in a bowl
  • add rice flour, graam flour, salt, oil and mix it well to the batter consistency
  • apply oil on the pan and spread the prepared batter
  • brush some oil and cover it and cook for a minute on medium heat
  • moong dal cheela is ready

For mint chutney

  • add mint leaves, coriander leaves and green chilli in a blender
  • blend it smooth, mint chutney is ready
